As I expected, our AW service last night (inner-city mission church) was mostly unaccompanied children who came to find out what the ashes on foreheads were all about and get something their friends at church would have, but their siblings at home wouldn't. Before the service, many did the the word search from lectionarypuzzles. They chose and led the music. Your visual image of the sign of the cross at baptism and when very sick was perfect. Fasting would have been incomprehensible. (They eat whenever they can, as they miss meals when there's nothing home to eat.) So we used "giving up" and "working at" and added to the list. All the kids wrote their sins on post-it notes that we burned on the altar during the service to make ashes. <br /><br />"Forbid Them Not" is fabulous! THank you for a lifetime of great work.Brian Rotachhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04102675020193134690noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4995851195771634116.post-10261979533112428932011-03-09T11:39:59.966-05:002011-03-09T11:39:59.966-05:00Pastor Andy, you are so right. The trouble with blogs is that there is no editor to catch things until you go public. Thanks for the heads up on this. And, have a holy (and not very showy) Lent.Worshiping with Childrenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12023055938126631743noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4995851195771634116.post-85432375801638162172011-03-09T10:31:25.960-05:002011-03-09T10:31:25.960-05:00I think that in the comment on the Gospel text you...I think that in the comment on the Gospel text you mean that Jesus says we should NOT make a show out of our Lenten disciplines!
