What to Say to Children After the Killings in Charleston
As you think about what to say to children and their parents about the killings in Charleston this week, go to http://worshipingwithchildren.blogspot.com/…/this-is-for-pa… for an article Delia Halverson wrote after the Aurora Colorado theater killings. The situations are different, but much of her advice applies to both. Also go to http://storypath.upsem.edu/peace-is-an-offering-children-and-charleston/ for a bibliography they put together after Ferguson. I particularly like The Crayon Box That Talked and would add the Christmas Menorahs: The Town That Fought Hate, by Janice Cohn because they suggest that children can do things that make a difference. If you have other suggestions, the rest of us would appreciate hearing what you have to offer. We must find ways to impact the lives of children so that they will not grow into young adults who hate so viciously.
